SuperMegaspoof FAQ

This FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) answers some of the questions I keep receiving by mail.

  • "How do I set FireFox as my default spoofbrowser?"
Take a close look at the toolbar at the top in the SuperMegaSpoof window. See the "Spoof" button? See the little arrow next to it? Click the arrow and pick your browser. You will need to install RefSpoof for FireFox to make this work!
  • "I'm receiving a 'spoof is not a registered protocol' message?"
You didn't install RefSpoof. Install it or use Internet Explorer in place of FireFox.
  • "Is there a MAC/Linux/<Insert some OS or platform here> version? Why not?"
No, there is no MAC/Linux/... version of SuperMegaSpoof. Why? Simply because I don't have a MAC to develop it on. Because I'm no Linux programmer. Because. If you have a spare MAC you can miss, send it to me and I'll see what I can do ;-) I do, however, encourage other users to develop a MAC/Linux/... versions of SuperMegaSpoof. If you're interested then mail us
  • "Why doesn't SuperMegaSpoof work with Mozilla/Opera/<Insert browsername here>?
This is kind of a technical issue. IE (Internet Explorer) allows you to create the IE object and then send the required spoofed headers. There is (to my knowledge) no way to do this with other browsers unless it is a plug-in. I do not have the time to figure this stuff out or to create a work-around or "hack" to make it work anyway. If you have any ideas about this issue let us know. (From version 1.96 and upward FireFox can be used to spoof)
  • "I keep getting (run-time)errors?"
This is probably because some of the components SuperMegaSpoof relies on is not installed or outdated. Check the help-file (typically in C:\Program Files\MegaSpoof\Help) for a list of required updates that need to be installed in order for SuperMegaSpoof to function properly. Download these updates, install them and then try again. If this does not help and you keep receiving errors, let me know. Make sure you mention the following things:
    • SuperMegaSpoof version
    • Windows paltform (XP, 98 etc)
    • The exact error-number and error-message
  • "I try to spoof but nothing happens?"
Usually this is caused by some pop-up killer. Make sure you disable any pop-up killers (check Internet Explorer's settings and make sure you check for toolbars like the Google Toolbar). You can enable your pop-up killers after you're done with SuperMegaSpoof. We do encourage the use of pop-up killers, all we're saying is that you might try to disable them when you encounter problems using SuperMegaSpoof.
  • "I was banned by user <insert name here>! Why? Can you undo it?"
The reason why you were banned is usually given by the admin and appears when you try to log in to SuperMegaSpoof. We usually do not undo bans. If you disagree with the admin about the reason why you were banned you can mail us about it. Make sure you tell the entire story of your ban and why you disagree. Do NOT forget to mention your username, because withouth it it is impossible to undo a ban. Note that bans are very rare and bans being undone is even more rare. When you were banned you probably deserved it. There is, however, a tiny possibility that an IP-number has been banned that is the IP number of a proxy server or router that you just happen to be on as some other user that was actually banned. This usually happens in school-environments or other environments where more people share the same computer(s). If this is the case, please let me know.
  • "When does my ban expire?"
You can check the expire date of your ban (if any) by going to this page and entering your MegaSpoof username.
  • "When will there be a new version?"
When it's done. I'm very busy at the moment, and (unfortunately) unable to predict when it's done.
  • "How do I spoof? How to find a spoof?"
Finding a spoof is actually looking for a "backdoor" of a website. Sometimes spoofs can be found on the internet, sometimes you can deduce spoofs from other spoofs (the referer is the page you came from, the target is the page you went to). Some sites are protected against spoofs and others cannot even be spoofed. There is no such "the way" to spoof a site.
  • "The zipfile / compressed folder is damaged?"
Some users seem to encounter problems extracting the compressed files. Why this problem occurs is still unclear, but you might want to try Winzip to extract the files.
  • "What's the fuss about this proxy server thing?"
By using a (public, open) proxy (server) people can abuse certain features of SuperMegaSpoof. This abuse is heavily checked and dealt with. Would you like to know more about proxy servers, then check out this information. To check if you're using a proxy server on our black-list you can go to this page and enter your username. Should you find a warning about the use of a proxy server then disable this option in your browser.
  • "I cannot create an account? An account was already created from my IP?"
Because we recently had a lot of SPAM abuse at the MegaSpoof network we introduced a (rather drastic) measure to prevent this from happening again. This measure means that only 1 account can be created per day from an IP number. This will seldom cause a problem, unless you're using a proxy server (see previous question above). Wait at least 24 hours and try again. If it still fails, go to this page and enter your username (or the name you're trying to register) and click "check". Should you encounter a message about a proxy server then you'll have to use another proxy server, or better: don't use one at all. To find out how to configure your computer not to use a proxy server contact your systemadministrator, computerdealer or ISP (Internet Service Provider), not us. We cannot help you with this.
